I first heard/read about volunteering for CCSS – in my local Council’s free newspaper about 3 years ago. This planted a seed in my mind that it may be something I could do.
My professional background is that I worked for the Council for over 30 years within Children’s Services (nursery nurse/family support/deputy manager/manager).
I applied to be a volunteer soon after reading the article but there were no vacancies at the time. However, some months later I was interviewed, and began volunteering in June 2015.
The work is so diverse, being both interesting, and fascinating. It can of course, be quite upsetting and challenging at times, but you have the support of the other volunteers, the court staff, – not forgetting the Coroner !
I love working with people in general and feel we are much appreciated by the families and professionals in what we do.
I can honestly say that volunteering is one of the best decisions I have ever made.
